Arri Priimagi
Professor of chemistry in the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University, and leader of the Smart Photonic Materials research group. The group’s focal areas of research revolve around different aspects of photocontrollable functional systems, ranging from synthesis of molecular photoswitches to applications of light-responsive thin films in photonics and biomaterials sciences, and light-fuelled polymer network actuators in soft robotics.

Panče Naumov
Tenured professor at New York University Abu Dhabi, with a cross-appointment at NYU’s Molecular Design Institute, and a director of the Center for Smart Engineering Materials. He is a native of Macedonia, where he got a BSc degree from Ss. Cyril and Methodius University. After acquiring his PhD in chemistry and materials science from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2004, Dr. Naumov continued his research at the National Institute for Materials Science, Osaka University and Kyoto University. The research in his group is related to materials science, focusing on smart materials, crystallography, bioluminescence, and petroleomics.

Teresa Pellegrino
Senior Researcher Principal Investigator, Tenured Team Leader of the group ‘Nanomaterials for Biomedical Applications’ at IIT, Genoa, Italy. Her current research interests focus on the development of inorganic nanostructures for drug delivery, magnetic hyperthermia, photo-thermal treatment and radiotherapy exploiting cation exchange radio-protocols.

Paola Luciani
Full Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Bern and Director of Study of the Bachelor in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Paola leads a research group in Pharmaceutical Technology working on the design and characterization of lipid-based, bio-derived and bio-inspired drug delivery systems for the treatment of chronic multifactorial diseases, such as fibrosis, endometriosis and inflammatory diseases. Together with her interdisciplinary team, she explores novel approaches to achieve sustained drug delivery, including additive manufacturing.

Javier Montenegro
Profesor Titular Oportunius and PI in the CIQUS at the University of Santiago de Compostela. His research interests are at the interphase between organic synthetic and supramolecular chemistry applied to biological systems and the discovery of new materials. Currently, he is mainly focused in the topological control of supramolecular assemblies for broad applications such as differential sensing, controlled delivery and tubular-templated composites. He has received different prestigious awards including: a Starting Grant from the ERC (2015), the Prize of Young Investigators of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2018) and the Prize of Young Research Group Leaders in Chemical Biology of the RSEQ (2019).

M.-Ali. Shahbazi
Dr. Shahbazi received his Ph.D. in 2015 from the University of Helsinki, Finland. He is currently an assistant professor at the University Medical Center Groningen, The Netherlands, and the co-founder of Capsamedix Oy Company. He has over 190 publications and several competitive prizes in his the portfolio, including the best Ph.D. thesis in pharmaceutical Sciences in Finland 2015 and highly prestigious USERN laureate award in 2020. His current research interest lies in nano-based photo-active regenerative hydrogels and scaffolds for wound healing, bone repair, and cancer immunotherapy to shape the future of multifunctional medicines through the combination of material science, biology, and nanotechnology. He is also developing microneedle-based transdermal delivery systems, injectable hydrogels, and cell-based delivery formulations for tissue engineering and cancer therapy.

Rainer Haag
Chair professor in Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at Freie University Berlin (FU Berlin), where he head a highly diverse and multidisciplinary research group. His research interests include the design of functional macromolecular architectures to understand biological principles. The research areas are divided in three subgroups:
-Polymeric and Supramolecular Nanosystems
-Dynamic Hydrogels and Functional Biointerfaces
-Biodegradable and Sustainable Materials.
Amar Flood
Luther Dana Waterman Professor at the Department of Chemistry of the Indiana University Bloomington. His research interests are related to different aspects of supramolecular chemistry & self-assembly, focusing on anion recognition, molecular machines and assemblies, hierarchical assembly of fluorescent materials.

Giovanni Maria Pavan
Full Professor at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of Politecnico di Torino and at SUPSI (The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland). He is head of the Computational Physical Chemistry (CPC) Lab @PoliTO (IT) & of Computational Materials Science Lab @SUPSI (CH). His research activity combines molecular modeling, computer simulations & machine learning to explore new routes in physical chemistry, self-assembly & bioinspired materials.
Giulia Pacchioni
Giulia received her Master’s degree in physics from the University of Milan, Italy, in 2011, with a thesis on the implantation of metal clusters in electroluminescent polymers for use in OLED devices. She then completed her PhD studies on the investigation of nanostructures on surfaces using scanning tunnelling microscopy in the group of Professor Harald Brune at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland. Giulia joined Springer Nature in October 2015 for the launch of Nature Reviews Materials. She spent 2018 heading up the launch team of Nature Reviews Physics. Since January 2022, she is the Chief Editor of Nature Reviews Materials.
